Are you coming to Wakestock UK this summer? Fancy having a go at wakeboarding whilst you’re at the festival? Glasfryn Wake Parc is open throughout the Wakestock weekend of July 5-8 and offers both beginners, and more experienced riders an easy, cheap and fun way to get out on the water.

Glasfryn Wake Parc is situated just 15 minutes away from the Wakestock festival site and is the perfect place for festival goers to try their hand at wakeboarding. Glasfryn will be running direct buses every hour from the festival site to the lake, so getting there from your tent couldn’t be simpler. All equipment is included in the price and the bus will bring you back to the festival site after your session. Places to ride are limited so recommend booking in advance to guarantee your slots.

Glasfryn Wake Parc uses three Sesitec System 2.0 Wakeboard Cables, the same system as used on the pool gap at the festival site, to tow riders up and down their purpose built lakes. One of the System 2.0’s is designed for beginners and runs at a shorter length of 100m and is 10m high meaning beginners get a great upward pull. You cannot fail to learn to wakeboard using this setup!

For the more advanced riders there are 6 obstacles on the lakes – brand new wall rides, the Leviathan, two kickers and a flat bar. Combined with ollie barrels and the ability to learn air tricks very easily, Glasfryn Wake Parc is truly a venue for every standard of wakeboarder from first timer, to seasoned pro.

The venue at Glasfryn Wake Parc is stunning and set on the picturesque Llyn Peninsula, the lakes are surrounded by tall trees meaning no matter how windy it is the lake is always perfectly calm. The clean water is fed by streams coming straight down from the mountains and the site boasts great facilities including changing rooms, showers, club house, licensed bar, cafe and much more. There are also many other activities like go karts, quad bikes and ten pin bowling so you can really make a day of it.

Glasfryn Parc was the first cable wake park to open in Wales and opened in July 2010. Located on the A499 Caernarfon to Pwllheli road, Glasfryn Wake Parc is easily accessible – the postcode is LL53 6PG.

For further information about the Wake Parc and to book your session, please email wakeboard@glasfryn.co.uk or call 01766 810202. You can also check out their website www.glasfryn.co.uk

Brazil, Canada, and USA will be turned up-side-down and all-around by World Champion wakeboarders Dean Smith, Phil Soven, and Aaron Rathy. The idea is to have more time for the Pro Men to do their show, and have more time also for other activities such as Roxy’s Stand up Paddle clinics, some pocket shows in Quiksilver’s lounge, DC’s BMX and Skateboard demos, and of course the well know sunset parties and bikini contest. The official website for the event will be online soon at www.raggawake.com with all the info about the event.”

I can’t wait!”

“Wakestock has truly proven that it reigns as one of the best wakeboard contests in the world.” WWA President Shannon Starling states, “The WWA is proud to have a strong bond with the largest wakeboard festival in the world.”

December 21, 2011

From Abu Dhabi, UAE — The 21-year-old phenomenon from Germany, Dominik Guehrs, has accomplished the impossible. He has won the 2011 WWA Wake Park World Championships and the 2011 WWA Wake Park World Series overall championship; something that only American, Tom Fooshee, has previously achieved. Guehrs’ incredible triumph could not have happened in a more Cinderella fashion. Guehrs and fellow German, Freddy von Osten were tied just 15 points behind Fooshee coming into the 2011 WWA Wake Park World Championships hosted by Al Forsan International Sports Resort, December 7-10 in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.

It was an intense battle on the right-foot-forward cable (counter-clockwise) at Al Forsan, but riders were able to adapt to the cable and squeeze in some serious maneuvers. The new two pass format enabled riders to concentrate on quality of tricks, not quantity. Fooshee needed to finish in at least 2nd place to defend the WWA World Series title; however, in compelling form, Fooshee had two unfortunate falls on a switch Pete Rose 540 followed by an S-Mobe 540, which kept him off of the podium. The battle was left to Guehrs, von Osten, and Thai sensation, Daniel Grant; anyone could have taken the victory.

In an interview just days before claiming his championships, Guehrs stated “I have to win Worlds to win both (Wake Park Worlds & Wake Park World Series). (Winning Worlds) is what I will focus on.

“We have a changing of the guard.” States WWA President, Shannon Starling, “Each rider gave it 100%, and to see the young German win is something spectacular.”

The 2011 Telekom Extreme Playgrounds came to a close on Sunday August, 28th in Hamburg, Germany. It was an action packed weekend of top level riding in Wakeboard, Wakeskate and BMX. With live performances from punk rock bands Yellowcard, NOFX and Rise Against, and some epic pre event and after parties, this was one of the best TEP to date.

Tom Fooshee of the USA was unstoppable this weekend! It was the fourth time that the Wake Park rider finished on top of the podium at the Telekom Extreme Playgrounds. His competitors Rocco von Straten of the Netherlands and Lior Sofer of Israel were left behind after his first run. Only the German rider, Dominik Gührs could keep up with him, but had to tip his hat to Fooshee after a second run of 82.33 points by the American. Dominik Gührs, Rocco van Straten and Lior Sofer finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectfully.

“Best wakeskater of all time” – that´s the title for the USA’s Reed Hansen! Nobody can beat this guy at the moment. It was his first appearance at the Telekom Playgrounds – actually, it was his first contest on European soil. Moritz Thiele of Germany was close behind, but had to be satisfied with 2nd place in the end as Hansen laid down several tech flip tricks. Last year’s winner Tarik Ghoniem from Germany finished up in 3rd, with Jan Kissman also of Germany in 4th.

The BMX final was nothing but spectacular! UK top rider Mark Webb showed once again that there´s no one better at the mini ramp right now. He earned 95.00 points with his first run, leaving everybody else behind and taking the title home for the third time in a row. The surprise of the weekend was Daniel Tünte of Germany. This youngster was the winner of the Telekom Local Support Miniramp Challenge which brought him in the company of the pros. He showed absolutely no fear for the big names and was rewarded with second place, leaving even Italian pro Alessandro Barbero behind in 3rd.

The WWA Wake Park World Championships Hosted by Al Forsan in Abu Dhabi December 7-10 will be the final stop of the WWA Wake Park World Series. As the Rankings stand now, Tom Fooshee is back on top, but don’t rule out German riders Dominik Gührs and Fredy von Osten nipping at Fooshee’s heels. Click Here for the full WWA Wake Park World Series Rankings.
